Warsaw surprised us a lot. In a very good way. It happens that Poland was one of the countries that suffered the most from the Second World War, and the old town of Warsaw was literally destroyed into pieces and rebuilt after. It is also funny to watch the debate “Warsaw or Krakow” arise the second you mention about your intention to visit Polish capital. We decided to check ourselves to answer this question “Warsaw or Krakow?”
Just like any other tourist, our first “destination” in Warsaw was the Old Town. The irony is that in Warsaw New Town is much older than Old Town as 90% of old buildings were destroyed during the war. However, it was remarkably rebuilt. Actually, it was rebuilt so perfectly, that it entered the UNESCO heritage list straight away. And indeed, who could believe that these stunning houses were made in the XX century?
We heard quite a lot of comments that Warsaw reminds more some fake movie decorations. Not in a tiniest bit! The Old Town is animated both with tourists and locals, which makes it absolutely adorable.
Check out the Market Square with the iconic statue of Warsaw…
…Royal Castle…
Barbican Fortress…
Holy Cross Church where the heart of Frederic Chopin is buried – famous Polish composer. Actually, you will find a lot of mentions of Chopin in Warsaw, including “musical benches”.
Warsaw Ghetto is known throughout the world – another deep scar on the face of the city. These are the traces of the used to be borders of the biggest Jewish ghetto during the war.
New town of Warsaw is fine as well. A bit messy, but friendly in general. That is the thing about Warsaw – it is humanly warm.

By the way, Poland is probably the best country to be on Easter – you can feel the spirit of something sacred. Or probably that was my own hallucination. :)
Warsaw is also full of big parks animated if not with people, then with “wildlife” :D
Where to stay in Warsaw?
Honestly, would be a shame not to experience CouchSurfing in such vibrant place. Thank you, Marta and Cuba for your warm welcome!

What incredible pictures, I had no idea Warsaw was so beautiful. Thank you for sharing.
Thanks for your warm words – you have a beautiful site by the way
Beautiful photos! I have been to Warsaw few weeks ago and I loved it. Lazienki was one of the most impressive places for me, such a magical place in the center of a huge city. I also went to few gastronomic spots, and the best one in my opinion was the Akademia Restaurant. It is a very nice, romantic restaurant with delicious Polish dishes in modern version. Everything was so delicious! I wish that I will be able to visit Warsaw again soon.
Thanks for your tips! Probably we’ll be back either to Warsaw or to Krakow very soon, so need to check that out!
Wow, your photos are incredible! They reminded me how much I liked Warsaw, I want to visit it again as soon as possible. I have been there only few times, but I really loved this city, it is a perfect combination of tradition and modernity for me. I love walking around and visiting all the “local” places instead of tourist attractions. One of my favorite spots to hang out was a bar called Bubbles, where my friend took me. Even though it is in the downtown, the prices are reasonable and the quality of food really high. Every dish I have tried there was really delicious, and the champagne they serve is excellent!
Oh wow, we just had an occasion to be there once, but definitely worth to come back and to try this spot out then. :)
I like sightseeing, but night life is an equally nice attraction to me. Therefore, during my visit to Warsaw I couldn’t not spend the evening at the New Orleans night club. You can’t forget an evening like this and if you love high quality in every regard, this place can provide it in one hundred percent. Good whiskey and a beautiful woman who really knows what striptease is…That’s what awaits every guy down there.
Thanks for the tip, hehe
