October 2020

The last part of our Bardenas adventure will be about our road back to Pau. Somehow, it felt like a different journey altogether, probably because we crossed the most important elephant from our itinerary, and could…relax? Anyway, the weather was good, we were both happy to be on the way home and finally get warm, and once we left the desert landscape of Bardenas, seeing the yellow-green valleys of Navarre was so delightful. The first quick stop was in the town Artanoja, which had some insane towers around its old town. If you thought first thing about Quidditch, I give you high five!

Artajona &

Olite

Ujué

For the night we treated ourselves to a room in a beautiful hotel in Olite followed by our last Spanish feast of this trip. What a change after the sleeping bags in the van! The next day before reentering the mountain zone we stopped in a village named Ujué. I must have already shared my impression in the previous articles about the fact that in Spain (or at some parts of it), many towns and villages look better from outside than in inside. The quality of the architectural heritage care is not at the same level as in France but it also makes these towns more comfortable for a modern life.

Then it was time to leave the yellow-green landscape and go into darker green shades with a different mood. Honestly, I found it difficult to properly cut the articles, because the very last part of the trip doesn’t have anything in common with the overall vibe. And that was the one I liked the most.

Ochagavía

If you want to see a cute Austrian or German village without leaving Spain, then go to Ochagavia. I mean could it be even more different from everything we saw before? We both fell in love with this town, where we spent the biggest part of the day. I guess somewhere here was also lost the scarf that matched my hat. Here I also held my book club meeting on a camping table. After another freezing night we had an awesome gift of late autumn mountains. Insanely beautiful. Choosing pictures was as hard as for the article about Bardenas Reales.

In spite of us, this would be our last trip of 2020. Upon our return another lockdown was announced so we were lucky to have the mountain air to breathe before moving to Toulouse. Where we live now until today.

Road Through the Pyrenees

So this is it. Before entering Pau we had a lunch (this time typically French one!) in a simple but very authentic mountain Auberge. And with this little journey ended the page of our life in Pau and surfing frenzy. It was a beautiful page though.
