Even if we still have lots of ubpublished pictures from Jordan, we want to mark our first week in Saudi Arabia and the first 1000 km of this trip.

The cycling experience here is so very different from Jordan in so many ways (in terms of human interactions too but it’s another story), and we are so happy to finally get into this feeling of Great Outdoors. With high density of towns and villages as well as of spots of interest in Jordan this feeling didn’t show at all.

Curiously, what keeps popping into our minds are...the flashbacks of our cycling tour of Iceland. In Saudi Arabia. 😁 Big empty spaces, no trees and life from one gas station to another wit incredibly horrible food. At least in Saudi it’s bad but cheap ☝🏻.

We’ve seen Petra millions of times - starting with Tintin comic books and Indiana Jones movies, and ending with a flood of Instagram images in various sizes and shapes. Yet nothing compares to seeing it in real life. There’s a certain kind of magic in being so close to something so ancient, beautiful and eternal.

Yesterday, we arrived at our finish point in Jordan - Aqaba.

First, it’s astonishing, and a little bit scary, how quickly this month has flown by. It was intense, yet somehow felt like a single moment. It will dedinitely take some time to untangle all our mixed feelings as unlike other cycling trips, this one was NOT a relaxing or meditative experience. There’s a lot to process, but for now, the plan is to find a laundry and then stay in bed for a day or two.

A small dump of videos taken over these ten days. Nothing in common with our expectations, loads of unforseen difficulties, a lot of flexibility and adaptation needed.
But that's the essence of traveling, isn't it?

First a huge humiliating process of repacking our tandem (how can you repack a tandem - will you ask. by removing its seats and pedals, scotching them in a trash bag and paying for extra luggage) because it was 37kg instead of the 32 authorized by the shittiest air company ever. paying for the additional kilos was not an option.

Then a wrong adress given by our airbnb host, two hours freezing outside (did you know how cold Amman can be in January ?), another taxi for errr 2 meter box only to discover… that our room was already given to someone else.

Never in my life did I rage out on a stranger like I did yesterday.

At least we got our room and our 12 hours sleep.
Let the GOOD part of the journey begin.
